Citrine is a yellow to yellow-gold transparent variety of Quartz. Natural Citrine stone is rare, with a characteristic light yellow color, cloudy or smoky appearance, and lack of red, orange, or brown tints (these tints are indicative of heat-treated amethyst often sold as Citrine). It is closely related to Smoky Quartz with some being considered hybrid “Smoky Citrine.” Some natural varieties of the two minerals share bases of aluminum and coloration by irradiation.
